FAQ

Is there an additional cost for engraving?

All engraving costs are based upon the computer generated drawing we provide with every memorial. Any additional wording or dates of death would be an additional expense at the time such services are needed.

What options do I have if I want to further customize my monument?

We welcome custom monument requests!  Please contact our office at (614) 221-2726  and one of our experienced associates will walk you through the memorial process.

What are the benefits of purchasing a monument from a monument dealer rather than a funeral home, cemetery, or online retailer?

Many people may try to sell you a memorial, but only a dedicated monument dealer has the specialized training and experience to provide expert guidance and the quality craftsmanship you deserve. Purchasing a cemetery memorial is typically a once-in-a-lifetime decision, so working with professionals who focus solely on designing and building memorials is highly beneficial. Since this process may be new to you, you’re likely to have questions along the way. Our team allows you to speak directly with those working on your memorial, providing reassurance and the opportunity to review your memorial before it’s completed.

How do I choose the best type of memorial for my plot?

Many cemeteries have specific guidelines regarding the size, shape, or materials permitted for memorials. Knowing these rules in advance can help you select a cemetery plot that allows for the type of memorial you envision. Our staff is here to help you navigate these restrictions, advising on options that meet cemetery requirements and best enhance your gravesite. In addition to these guidelines, your preferences and budget will also influence the type of memorial that’s right for you.

How long will it take to have a memorial installed?

The process of completing and installing a memorial typically takes between 6 weeks and 6 months, depending on factors like material availability (whether domestic or imported), weather conditions, stone type, design complexity, and cemetery scheduling. At Columbus Monument Company, all work is performed in-house by our skilled craftsmen and artists, giving us full control over the creation of your memorial. However, certain external factors, such as adverse weather or delays with the cemetery foundation, can still affect the installation timeline.

When is the best time to purchase a memorial?

The ideal time to purchase a memorial is before it’s actually needed. This allows you to make thoughtful decisions without the emotional weight of a recent loss or the pressure of addressing an unmarked grave. If pre-purchase isn’t possible, it’s best to wait until you feel emotionally prepared. At Columbus Monument Company, we understand that a memorial is a lasting tribute, something you’ll visit for years to come, so taking the time to choose carefully is important.

How can we be confident that we’ll be happy with the design we choose?

At Columbus Monument Company, we offer computer-generated scale drawings of your memorial for your review and approval. This lets you see precisely how the memorial will look before the engraving process begins. If you wish to make any adjustments after viewing the design, we can accommodate those changes to ensure it meets your expectations.

Is it possible to have our memorial engraved with a custom design?

Every memorial we create at Columbus Monument Company is as unique as the life it honors. Our team of skilled craftsmen and artists can help bring any memorial vision to life. We have access to a wide variety of granite types and colors, and with modern computer-controlled equipment, we can create custom shapes and sizes with ease. We also offer a range of engraving options, from traditional sandblast engraving to intricate hand diamond-etched portraits. All work is done on-site by our dedicated team, and you’re always welcome to check on its progress.

If I encounter issues at the cemetery, who should I contact for assistance?

Typically, cemeteries are responsible for pouring the foundation for monuments and markers, with a separate fee collected to cover this work. Columbus Monument Company will then deliver the memorial to the cemetery and set it on the foundation they provided. If any issues arise with the foundation work, we are more than happy to collaborate with you and the cemetery to find a solution.

Is it necessary to purchase a memorial if the body was cremated?

Cremation doesn’t diminish the importance of honoring a loved one’s life with a memorial. At Columbus Monument Company, we provide several meaningful options to do this. In many cemeteries, cremated remains are buried in a gravesite with a traditional monument or marker. We can also design a custom cut-out in the base of a monument or bench to securely house the cremains inside. For mausoleums, we offer a selection of decorative urns to respectfully hold your loved one’s cremains.
